Attached is your PO for deliveries of recyclables during June 2021.
The overall market for recyclables improved considerably this month.Every commodity price, except used beverage containers (aluminum), rose.
We see a very interesting market this month. Both domestic and export recycled paper had strong pricing. The demand for domestic paper in the Pacific Northwest continued. Every domestic mill is running hard. Consumer purchasing through ecommerce continues to trend high, creating a need for OCC. In the export paper market, we mentioned last month that India announced they would import less fiber in the near term. That drawback was short lived. India is back up and running, once again, bolstering the export paper market. The combined strength in both the domestic and export markets lend to a promising outlook for recycled paper.
The backlog at the port did not improve much this month. Bookings to export customers remain difficult to secure. This logjam means more OCC is staying with domestic mills.
All grades of plastics increased in value this month. HDPE natural continued to notch another record. Since the lows in pricing from last year, natural has tripled in price. As the Texas plants producing virgin resin restarted after their weather shutdowns, they have not been able to keep up with the increasing demand. Also, HDPE color pricing increased almost 50% over last month. All other plastics grades continued their modest increases.
Metals saw a slight decrease or modest increase in prices. Some tin plants on the West coast are not running this month. This drop in demand caused prices not to rise much in what would have otherwise been a strong metals market.
As always, Pioneer will work diligently to get the best pricing available in this challenging marketplace. It is our pleasure to work with you to recycle material and to protect our environment. We appreciate you and thank you for your business.
