Attached is your PO for deliveries of recyclables during March 2024.
The value of recyclablesis upthis month. The primary reason for thischange is OCC demand.
In the Pacific Northwest (PNW), paper is the big story. Firstly, OCC demand is extremely high in both domestic and export markets. Correspondingly, the generation of ResMix is thin and does not show any pickup signs. This combination of demand and supply created significant upward pressure on OCC prices. It is good that OCC prices are up to offset decreases in other grades.
Mixed paper prices moved up in some areas and down in other areas, depending on the specific location. This variation was affected by two factors: (1) demand remains suppressed and (2) differences in logistic costs, depending on the port of shipment. Overall, for the PNW, the average mixed paper price did not move much.
For plastics, again this month, PET prices improved somewhat. All other plastic grades remained flat. The price of virgin plastic resin remains low and keeps recycled plastics value in check. These low prices have manufacturers using more virgin resin compared to recycled plastics. This month, the overall effect of plastic grades had a negligible effect on recyclables.
For metals, UBCpricesdropped for the first time in several months. Lower construction levels in North America generally repressed aluminum values. Many tin processing facilities slowed down production this month. Consequently, the value of tin decreased substantially.
Looking forward, we expect generation to remain low. Domestic and export mills are projecting strong demand in the coming months. These factors should keep recyclables value strong.
